Our Role in the Clean Slate Project

Making a Difference in People’s Lives

Countless Central Texans face barriers in life due to their criminal histories, and our Waco criminal defense attorney partnered with Feed My Sheep to help change that. Feed My Sheep is a volunteer-based non-profit organization in Temple that provides nourishment and basic necessities to the homeless and needy people of Central Texas. Some of these patrons struggle to move forward from their past mistakes, due to a criminal history that creates obstacles to housing, employment, reuniting with family, and more.

As such, we founded the Clean Slate Project to help give people a second chance at life by "wiping the slate clean" for eligible patrons in need.

Our Waco criminal defense lawyer will help fulfill this mission by offering pro-bono legal counsel to Feed My Sheep patrons who are qualified to get their criminal records sealed or expunged. The Greening Law Group and Feed My Sheep recognize a need for these services and thus devised the Clean Slate Project to be a solution to the problem. As a result, we hope to help as many eligible patrons as possible enjoy the valuable opportunities they have missed out on for far too long.

If you would like to make a donation to support a patron in need, please visit the donate page on the Feed My Sheep website or call the Resource Center at (254) 239-9863!

The Solution: Expungements & Nondisclosure Orders

As mentioned before, the Clean Slate Project was founded to help eligible patrons get a second chance at life by wiping the slate clean. So, how do we plan on “wiping the slate clean,” exactly?

The Greening Law Group can help eligible Feed My Sheep patrons, including juveniles, enjoy their well-deserved peace of mind through expunctions and nondisclosure orders. Both are similar in that they help clean the slate but accomplish this outcome differently.

An expungement is a process by which a criminal conviction is erased or removed completely from state or federal record. If successful, an expungement order will require the court to treat a criminal conviction as if it never happened by removing it from a person’s criminal record and, ideally, the public record.

The second solution to help patrons “clean their slate” is an order of nondisclosure. Nondisclosure orders are different from expunctions because they are available for people who successfully complete deferred adjudication for a Class B criminal offense or above. If it is granted, a nondisclosure order will prevent public information agencies, such as the following, from releasing arrest information, including juvenile records:

  • Law enforcement agencies
  • Jails
  • Courts

It’s important to know that orders of nondisclosure still allow law enforcement agencies to share arrest information with each other and certain authorized agencies, such as school districts. The information may also be presented in cases concerning subsequent criminal prosecutions.

We Need Your Help

Our Waco criminal defense lawyer is proud to donate the time, energy and resources needed to help qualified Feed My Sheep patrons move forward in their lives. However, we also invite you to make a donation to help us accomplish our goal, as the Clean Slate Project cannot be possible without your help. This is because the filing fees and court costs generally total to about $300 for expunctions and nondisclosures. As such, the Clean Slate Project relies on donations from people like you.

We understand if you cannot donate at this time, but luckily, there are other ways to help:

  • Share this blog with friends and family via social media, text messages, email, etc.
  • Circulate the Feed My Sheep donate page among friends and family
  • Write a social media post in support of the Clean Slate Project, and include a link to Feed My Sheep’s donate page
  • Talk to your friends and family about why you support the Clean Slate Project

The Greening Law Group prides itself on winning in the courtroom and in life. Our unwavering commitment to helping people succeed despite their criminal histories not only applies to our clients but Feed My Sheep patrons as well. No one is perfect and we believe that people shouldn’t struggle indefinitely for their past mistakes. As such, we welcome you to contact us online or call (254) 875-0066 to learn how our Waco criminal defense attorney can help you overcome your obstacles.

We are honored to be a part of the Clean Slate Project and thank you for your consideration in donating. Remember, little can go a long way.
